PROJECT AWARDS
STEVEN ROHR - FOUNDER

With over 20 years of broad experience before starting Detail, Steve can meet almost any challenge.   Steve's background provides expertise that is unique to the industry.  Not only does Steve have a diverse design background with award-winning projects, but he observed firsthand the problems which can occur when a building is not properly designed, constructed, or maintained.

Despite the best intentions, every project will have its issues.   Because every building is unique, the final building is a prototype, hand-assembled by a small army of craftsmen with different skills.   Thousands of unique conditions can exist even on a small project, and it is not feasible or reasonable to predict every condition.  Unlike predictable factory work with controlled conditions, buildings are constructed in adverse weather.   In the end, creating architecture is complex and challenging.

The goal of Detail is to create better buildings and reduce construction issues.   We strive to collaborate with the contractor and individual craftsmen.  Every person has value and expertise, and it's the goal of Detail to bridge the team's collective knowledge.

During the first 10 years of Steve's career, he collaborated on diverse projects, many award-winning, for the acclaimed design firms RTKL and Ross Barney Architects.   The past 10 years,  Steve worked at the renowned engineering firm Thornton Tomasetti as a forensic architect, investigating building failures and specifying repairs.   He also investigated weather-related damage to buildings and corrected poor workmanship issues.

Steve was a lead infrared thermographer for Thornton Tomasetti's US-based offices.

STEVE ROHR - FOUNDER

Steve, the founder of detaiLAB, has over 20 years of combined experience in building design, construction, and maintenance. He has collaborated on award-winning projects and investigated building failures as a forensic architect. His wealth of knowledge and expertise offers a unique perspective in the industry, particularly in addressing the challenges that arise when buildings are not properly designed, constructed, or maintained.

DetaiLAB's objective is to integrate the best practices and knowledge of the design and forensic industries to create better buildings and minimize construction issues. Steve approaches each project with a fresh perspective, crafting thoughtful designs while ensuring their durability. He can incorporate energy-efficient enhancements and green practices to lower energy usage and promote environmental sustainability.

In contrast to typical design firms, detaiLAB offers services for the full building lifespan from inception to end of life. For existing buildings, detaiLAB can study the health of the building before embarking on expensive repairs or renovations. The firm utilizes specialized equipment to diagnose energy loss, thermal bridging, water leaks, and other performance issues.

Although every project encounters difficulties, and every building is one-of-a-kind, detaiLAB works collaboratively with contractors, tradespeople, and owners to merge their collective knowledge to ensure the project's success. The firm is dedicated to assisting our clients through this challenging journey to bring their vision to life.
