DetaiLAB reimagined an existing roof deck above the flat roof of an urban home in Chicago, IL. The design includes wood slats wrapped around the existing penthouse to create visual interest and screen the roof. Concealed within the slat screen wall is a roof access door. Modern siding was specified with an integrated reveal for added dimension. Instead of a traditional wood deck, porcelain pavers rest on pedestals. This system is more durable and the pavers can be easily removed for roof maintenance.
