A developer desired to turn a narrow strip of land near White Rock Creek in Dallas, Texas, into a modernist community. The developer hosted a competition to design a home for one of the fifty lots. The site required small narrow lots near adjacent dwellings. For privacy, the elevation immediately adjacent to the neighboring lot was to have restrictive views. Each site sloped with views to the creek below. To lessen the visual impact of vehicles, garage doors could not face the street. Our entry featured an open plan with expansive views to the adjacent pool and creek below. The living space was located above the garage and the pool deck for privacy. Each bedroom had a private balcony or terrace. Included was a large patio at the entry to encourage friendly interaction with the neighbors in the community. For energy savings and reduced demands to the environment, the property featured photovoltaic panels on the third-floor elevation, dual climate zones, heat on-demand water, and high-performance windows.
