The American Institute of Architects (AIA) national convention was scheduled to be held in Denver, CO in 2013. Thornton Tomasetti had recently opened a Denver Office and decided to co-sponsor a networking event at the convention. To market the firm, Thornton Tomasetti held an internal design competition for a bar for the event. A jury selected my entry from approximately fifty submissions from offices across the globe. The project was intended to foster collaborations between offices. A small team in Chicago completed the design and documentation so the bar could be erected and disassembled the same day of the party. Thornton Tomasetti's Denver office assisted with the construction and assembly. Fabrication and erection of the steel frame were completed with local partners. Sustainable practices were implemented in the design, including highly recyclable steel, reclaimed train boxcar floors, and a used kevlar boat sail. To extend the use, the bar found a second life at a local winery after the event.
